Dad joked that I wrote the book. "For Jesus! PTL!" He's so weird.
Soon after that, they all left, and we were about to follow, when Tanner, 12, stopped us. He's like, "You can't leave! You have to talk to me about 7th grade! What was your hardest class? Math or English? No, you're good at English!"
When we told him he was good at English too, he dismissed it. Then he insisted that we stay and help him "label his notebooks" and organize all his supplies for the first day of school tomorrow. So we stayed. I mean, he still wanted us involved in his school life, and that's not always going to be true.
So, he takes a Sharpie, and goes to write on his first notebook. Then, he hesitates. "Wait. I don't trust myself. Here, Tonia. You do it." After I wrote ENGLISH and his name on the notebook, in block letters, he was in awe. "Wow. That's cool writing."
Tara and I joked it was from my all my book-signings. (Because, you know, I sign things in block-letters often.) And Tanner, sweetly incredulous, goes, "You have book-signings?" He's so cute
