Behind the Poem: JADED HEARTS

The poem, JADED HEARTS, (Beauty for Ashes, pgs 66-67) was written on September 20, 2001. I wrote this about ten days after the September 11th attacks, in the lobby of my college dorm.  I experienced it very distantly, only by E-mail and radio coverage.  It was years before I actually saw any footage.  To cope with what I knew, I tried framing things in a spiritual context.
