Behind the Poem: ASKING

The poem, ASKING, (Beauty for Ashes, pg 9) was written November 26, 2005. I was in the process of finishing my second novel (a recreational project as a part of National Novel Writing Month) and I was having trouble developing a backstory for a particular character. To cure the writer's block, I decided to write a poem and see if it would help. As it turned out, the character's backstory presented itself and I was able to continue working on it.
